dystopic visions

couldn't sleep last night. then, around 2:00, sleep came with this:

i was traveling through the wilderness, the jungle, with several companions. we were carrying heavy loads filled with supplies. i journeyed on with only vague sensations of time and distance passing. slowly, my companions and supplies began disappearing along the way. the jungle grew thicker and stranger and then i was alone, bag empty. i began to feel that i was heading to the edge of the world, the farthest reach of what could be known or explored. i was swimming up a narrow channel when i found something caught in the reeds. it was a first aid kit. i deemed myself lucky and restocked my supplies. a little further on, i found a backpack filled with water bottles of clean water, again i thanked my good fortune. as i swam, the channel became more and more filled with flotsam and jetsam and i wondered how human-made objects had gotten to such a remote location. then, suddenly i came upon a structure. it was filled with people and a party was happening. people yelled and laughed and welcomed me. i walked through the crowd and out onto the back porch. there, where i had imagined the end of the world to be, was a view over industrial chimneys and a concrete city stretching as far as the eye could see.

then i woke up at 3:30 and went to work for 14.5 hours.
